Announcement and availability
Apple refreshed the Magic line with USB-C on October 28, 2024, alongside the M4 iMac. The current range is three configurations of the same keyboard: standard ($99), with Touch ID ($149) and with Touch ID and numeric keypad ($179); Touch ID variants date to April 2021 for Macs with Apple silicon. What changes and who it is for
It replaces the 2015 Lightning model: the port moves to USB-C, a woven charging cable is included, and the internal battery still lasts over a month with automatic pairing over the cable. Touch ID, on two of the three configurations, unlocks the Mac and authorizes purchases. Apple Newsroom
Before choosing
Requires a Mac with macOS 15.1 or later, or a compatible iPad, per Apple. Touch ID works only with Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later); the numeric keypad configuration takes up noticeably more desk space. Apple · Specifications
