iPhone OS 1
This entry separates the first iPhone software from the device. It uses "iPhone OS 1" as a retrospective catalogue label, not a proven 2007 trade name: Apple's archived page calls it OS X. The iPhone announcement was January 9; Apple set the US sale for June 29, 2007.

The interface uses taps, flicks and pinches on Multi-Touch. The documented set includes Safari, HTML email, calendar, SMS, Notes and Address Book; music and video sit in the iPod function. Features from later versions are not turned into launch features.
On June 11 Apple presented third-party applications based on Web 2.0 standards. They were distributed over the Internet and developers could update them on their servers. This route is not merged with the native App Store documented for version 2.0 in 2008.
This entry describes the initial iPhone software, not every 1.x update or compatibility with each later model. It separates announcement, announced sale date and delivery evidence. The supporting image is a labelled editorial composition, not a historical screenshot.
