Mac OS X 10.7 Lion

On June 6, 2011 Apple announced Lion for July; on July 20 it confirmed Mac App Store availability for US$29.99. The store was the system's distribution channel, not a feature first arriving on every Mac that day. Apple also announced a $69 USB drive for August: that plan does not establish its actual sales day here.

Resume restored application state; Auto Save saved documents and Versions kept their history. AirDrop found nearby Macs and established a peer-to-peer wireless connection for files. Redesigned Mail conversations included Exchange 2010 support. These are system capabilities, not promises for every application or configuration.

Lion required 2 GB RAM and an Intel Mac with Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon: any Intel processor was not enough. The launch release specified an upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and installation on authorized personal Macs. Apple's security archive dates 10.7.2 to October 12, 2011 and 10.7.5 to September 19, 2012. Selected milestones only; Lion Server was an additional product, not included in the client price.
