Apple source ↗Apple announced Server 10.1 available on September 25, 2001, at Seybold San Francisco. This date is not copied from client Mac OS X 10.1: the server announcement is the specific evidence. Apple presented it as a major update improving response, printing, administration, and file transfers. Its performance claims are not converted into an independent percentage.

The clearest addition was software RAID: RAID 0 striping and RAID 1 mirroring. Apple listed updated Apache, Samba, PHP, MySQL, Tomcat, and OpenSSL components alongside QuickTime Streaming Server 3.0.2. This page does not invent exact version numbers for the other components or transfer these functions to the 1999 Server 1.0.

For education, Macintosh Manager 2.1 allowed local administration from Server; NetBoot included Mac OS 9.2.1 for supported clients. Apple reported improvements to file services, NetInfo, and Directory Services. It still listed the same computer groups as in May, including G4 Cube and iMac, with 128 MB RAM and 4 GB free space. This was not an Intel release.

US licenses remained 499 USD for ten Macintosh clients sharing files simultaneously and 999 USD for unlimited clients. The upgrade package cost 19.95 USD and included four CDs; the announcement offered a free upgrade to US and Canadian education customers through a specific channel. These are historical terms, not a current offer or a universally free upgrade.
