macOS Server 5.12.x (Monterey)
Apple says macOS Server 5.11.1 and earlier are incompatible with Monterey and that Server 5.12 is required there. The application version is not the operating-system version: Monterey here is macOS 12. The support note's revision date is not converted into the 5.12 launch day.

Apple says the Xsan configuration interface was removed from Server 5.12. Command-line management tools remain in Big Sur and later. Apple lists Profile Manager and Open Directory as the services in 5.12 and later; this is not presented as retaining the early generations' service bundle.

Apple discontinued macOS Server on April 21, 2022, explaining that existing customers could continue downloading and using the app with Monterey. Josh Centers reported this in TidBITS that day and recommended beginning a migration to another solution. His hypothesis about Apple Business Essentials is not turned into an Apple-confirmed reason.

Apple's later note sets another boundary: from October 29, 2024, Profile Manager could no longer create or renew push notification certificates, although existing certificates continued working; from April 14, 2025, it could no longer send push notifications. These are service milestones separate from the 2022 discontinuation, not new Server releases.
