tvOS 18

tvOS 18 entered developer beta on June 10, 2024, and launched free on September 16 for Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. InSight showed actors, characters and music from live-action Apple TV+ films and shows, not every video app's entire catalogue.

Subtitles could appear when muting, skipping back or watching a language different from the device setting. Enhance Dialogue expanded listening options beyond 17's setup; Apple's June note limited it to second-generation or later Apple TV 4K. HD is not credited with that capability simply because it could install the system.

September's announcement included English FaceTime Live Captions in the US and Canada and a Fitness+ redesign. Snoopy and 21:9 projector formats were still planned for later. Home features announced alongside them, such as guest access, were expressly tied to iOS 18, not a full new Home app on tvOS.

Apple's archive dates 18.2 to December 11, 2024. That day Rasmus Larsen at FlatpanelsHD documented Snoopy for second-generation or later 4K and wide formats limited to third generation with compatible content and apps. These are not backdated to September or every model; the 18.3.1 row also retains its third-generation-only scope.
