Apple announced the redesigned AirPort Express on June 11, 2012, for $99 in the US, in the same release that updated MacBook Air and MacBook Pro that day.
Configuration and use
The compact new enclosure featured simultaneous dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi. The audio output connected powered speakers or an A/V receiver for AirPlay streaming from iTunes on a Mac or an iOS device.
Context and photograph
USB 2.0 shared a printer over the network, and the additional Ethernet port connected other devices. This entry distinguishes the 2012 model from the original 2004 AirPort Express. The original photographs show the front and rear ports of the 2012 model.
