Apple Remote (aluminum) (2009)
The aluminum Apple Remote documented in 2009 replaces the white casing with silver aluminum and separates the navigation center from the Play button below, beside Menu. This is not a touch clickpad or a Siri Remote. Apple’s current identification guide associates it with second- and third-generation Apple TV; that does not make 2010 or 2012 its first appearance.

Context and revision
The aluminum Apple Remote documented in 2009 replaces the white casing with silver aluminum and separates the navigation center from the Play button below, beside Menu. This is not a touch clickpad or a Siri Remote. Apple’s current identification guide associates it with second- and third-generation Apple TV; that does not make 2010 or 2012 its first appearance.
Connection and power
Infrared transmission with a replaceable 3 V CR2032 or BR2032 coin battery. Apple lists any Apple TV but warns that functionality may be limited outside the original device. Navigation compatibility does not grant Siri, microphones, touch input or Bluetooth pairing.
Limits and later changes
Siri depends on Apple TV’s language and region; Apple TV Remote is also the name of the same hardware where Siri is unavailable. The iPhone software control is not this physical accessory. This infrared variant is not assigned voice search or a rechargeable battery.Navigation and playback control alone do not establish access to every later software feature.
