Documented in 1995
The April 1995 Apple Facts guide includes the StyleWriter 1200 as a compact monochrome inkjet using QuickDraw and the host computer’s processor. This contemporary catalogue supports the entry’s year without turning a misaligned date in the archived support sheet into a first-sale day.
Modes, resolution and memory
Apple Facts lists 128 KB RAM, 3 pages per minute in black-and-white normal mode and 2 in best mode. Service Source distinguishes 720 × 360 dpi with edge smoothing, 360 × 360 dpi for grayscale and normal mode, and 180 × 180 dpi in draft mode. The maximum does not mean 720 dpi on both axes or in every mode.
Connection and differences
The physical connection is serial. GrayShare software allows sharing over LocalTalk, Ethernet or Token Ring networks; these are not native printer ports. Compared with the StyleWriter II, the manual documents changes to rollers and the sheet feeder, automatic power on/off and new print modes. The photograph identifies a StyleWriter 1200 but does not establish working condition.
