Announcement and configurations
Apple announced the 27-inch Late 2009 iMac on October 20, 2009. The $1699 US base combined a 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1066 MHz DDR3, 1 TB hard drive and 256 MB Radeon HD 4670. The $1999 configuration used a 2.66 GHz quad-core Core i5 and 512 MB Radeon HD 4850. These configurations share this page rather than being counted as separate generations.
Display and connections
The LED-backlit IPS display grew to 27 inches, 16:9 and 2560 × 1440 pixels. It included an 8x SuperDrive, four USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800, SD slot, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. Mini DisplayPort provided video output and, on the 27-inch model, input from compatible DisplayPort sources. It shipped with a wireless keyboard, Magic Mouse, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iLife.
Availability and recreation
The announcement reported Core 2 Duo models shipping immediately, but placed the start of Core i5 and i7 shipments in November. October 20 is not treated as a documented quad-core delivery date. Apple offered a 2.8 GHz Core i7 option for the Core i5; support also lists a 3.33 GHz Core 2 Duo. The image is an illustrated exterior recreation, not a photograph or proof of internal configuration. A suitable real photograph is still sought.
