Announcement and configurations
Apple introduced the 27-inch Late 2012 iMac on October 23, 2012. Its November 27 notice placed orders from November 30 and 27-inch shipments in December. That forecast is not a documented delivery date. The $1799 US base had a 2.9 GHz quad-core Core i5 and 512 MB GeForce GTX 660M; the $1999 base used a 3.2 GHz quad-core Core i5 and 1 GB GTX 675MX.
Display and connections
Both bases included 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and a 1 TB 7200-rpm hard drive. The 27-inch LED IPS display offered 2560 × 1440. The new enclosure measured 5 mm at the edge, not across its full depth. It included four USB 3 ports, two Thunderbolt ports, SDXC, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and FaceTime HD. Launch software was OS X Mountain Lion.
Availability and recreation
The higher model could be configured with a 3.4 GHz quad-core Core i7 and 2 GB GTX 680MX. Apple lists up to 32 GB memory, 3 TB hard drive, 1 or 3 TB Fusion Drive and 768 GB flash storage. Fusion Drive was optional, not standard in every base: it combined 128 GB flash with a hard drive in a managed volume.
