This tray-loading CD-ROM revision came in Strawberry, Blueberry, Grape, Lime and Tangerine: the colors are not five generations. The Italian January 7 announcement specified a 266 MHz PowerPC G3, 512 KB level-two cache, 32 MB SDRAM and a 6 GB IDE hard drive.
Display and connections It included a 15-inch CRT with 13.8 inches viewable and up to 1024 × 768 resolution, up-to-24x CD-ROM and RAGE Pro Turbo with 6 MB SGRAM. Two 12 Mbps USB ports, 10/100 Ethernet, a 56K modem and USB keyboard and mouse accompanied it. FireWire and the later family's slot-loading drive are not attributed to this revision. The technical page lists Mac OS 8.5.1; the regional announcement calls it Mac OS 8.5.
Sources and photograph Original sources differ on maximum RAM: the US technical page says 128 MB and the Italian announcement 256 MB. Only the verified 32 MB base is retained, without choosing a maximum. The announced regional price was 2166700 Italian lire excluding VAT, not US dollars. Stephen Hackett's photo shows the five colors of the 1999 family from behind; it does not prove each unit's speed or storage. It is used unchanged under CC BY-SA 4.0, without implying the photographer's endorsement.
