Announcement and configuration

The 1999 slot-loading iMac family distinguished iMac, iMac DV and DV Special Edition. Apple's archived original website documents 350 or 400 MHz PowerPC G3 processors, a 100 MHz bus, 512 KB L2 cache and 6, 10 or 13 GB Ultra ATA disks. This entry groups that revision without turning its colors into separate generations.

Graphics and connections

DV models added two FireWire ports at up to 400 Mbps, VGA mirroring and iMovie for video editing. The family offered slot-loading CD-ROM at up to 24x or DVD-ROM at up to 4x; DV models could play DVDs. The basic iMac must not inherit DV FireWire ports or VGA output by extension.

Software and photograph

Apple's documentation lists a 15-inch CRT with a 13.8-inch viewable area, 8 MB ATI RAGE 128 VR, PC100 memory with two slots and official support up to 512 MB. It included two USB, 10/100 Ethernet, 56K modem and readiness for an optional AirPort card. Spaceprince identifies the original photo as a Tangerine DV, not the base model; the visible keyboard and mouse do not establish original box contents. The installed system and internal components are not inferred from the photograph.
