Launch and base configuration

Evolution and comparison

It expands the original 2002 15-inch family into widescreen: 1440 × 900 at 16:10 instead of 1024 × 768 at 4:3. The July release compares the new 17-inch with the 800 MHz 15-inch SuperDrive model: 80 versus 60 GB, GeForce4 MX versus GeForce2 MX and $1999 versus $1799. These are July prices, not January prices.

Features and scope

The release lists two FireWire, five USB, 10/100 Ethernet, a V.90 modem and Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, with iTunes 3, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD. AirPort Card was optional; 2003 AirPort Extreme is not transferred here. The photo identifies a 17-inch G4, not its CPU or internal revision. The existing overview stays separate.
