Launch
Apple announced iPod Radio Remote at Macworld Expo in San Francisco on January 10, 2006. It combined a wired remote with FM radio reception for iPod nano and the fifth-generation iPod.
Configuration and use
It let users skip tracks and adjust volume without taking the iPod out of a pocket or backpack. The iPod screen displayed station and song information when the station supported Radio Data System (RDS). This depended on the broadcast and was not guaranteed for every station.
Context and photograph
The announced US price was $49, including Apple headphones with a shorter cable. Apple announced immediate shipping. The original photo shows the remote, not the complete retail package. This entry does not claim universal compatibility with every iPod or iPhone.
