Introduction and capacities
Apple introduced the second-generation iPod touch on September 9, 2008, and announced immediate availability: 8 GB for $229, 16 GB for $299 and 32 GB for $399 in the United States. This page groups the three capacities of that generation, without treating every capacity or regional version as a separate product.
Display, sound and apps
A 3.5-inch Multi-Touch display accompanied a contoured metal body, integrated volume buttons, a speaker and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi. The App Store offered app downloads over Wi-Fi. Genius made playlists, while Nike + iPod support used an optional sensor, not one included by default with the player.
Identification and limits
Apple identifies it as A1288 and lists A1319 for China mainland. It distinguishes it from the first touch by its contoured design and oval antenna cover at the upper left on the back. Apple advertised up to 36 hours of music or six hours of video per charge, historical estimates that do not guarantee current battery endurance. At launch it required iTunes 8 and USB 2.0. The photo is a front view showing Settings in Japanese; it does not document factory firmware or a particular regional version.
