A network laser printer
Apple’s September 1994 developer note presents the LaserWriter 16/600 PS as a replacement for the LaserWriter Pro 630 for networking and graphics publishing. It uses a 25 MHz AMD 29030 and supports PostScript Level 2 and PCL 5. This date comes from Apple documentation, not proof of a first-sale day.
Resolution, memory and speed
Apple specifies 600 dpi, 4 MB ROM and 8 MB RAM expandable to 32 MB. FinePrint smooths text and lines; 600 dpi PhotoGrade requires at least 12 MB RAM and must not be attributed to every base configuration. The note’s table gives 16 pages/minute, while its introduction specifies up to 17 Letter-size pages/minute; the support sheet also lists 17. These are not guaranteed speeds for every job.
Connections and photograph
Connections include Ethernet AUI, LocalTalk and Centronics parallel, with EtherTalk, NetWare and TCP/IP over Ethernet. The note describes dynamic switching for multiple protocols and ports. The All About Apple source identifies the photograph as a 16/600 PS, but its 496 × 417 resolution cannot establish an internal revision or installed memory.
