Marketing
Apple's release called it, in Phil Schiller's words, the most advanced display Apple had ever made, with built-in iSight camera, microphone and speakers and a MagSafe charger so the notebook adapter could stay in the travel bag. It debuted the Mini DisplayPort, described in the release as ten percent the size of a DVI connector. Apple also presented it as its greenest display yet: mercury-free LED backlighting, arsenic-free glass, Energy Star 4.0, EPEAT Gold, PVC-free components and 44 percent less foam packaging.
Flaws and fixes
Per Wikipedia, it used edge-lit LED backlighting and was officially compatible with Macs with Mini DisplayPort. Matte panels left the range with it, except on the 30-inch. On July 26, 2010 it was replaced by the 27-inch LED Cinema Display (2560×1440, $999).
