Apple introduced the first Intel Mac mini on February 28, 2006, announcing shipping that day. The initial range had two distinct configurations: a 1.5 GHz Core Solo for $599 and a 1.66 GHz Core Duo for $799 in the US.
Configuration and use
Both included 512 MB of 667 MHz DDR2 memory, expandable to 2 GB, Intel GMA950 graphics, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, four USB 2.0 ports and DVI output with a VGA adapter. Core Solo had a 60 GB SATA drive and Combo drive; Core Duo had 80 GB and an 8x double-layer SuperDrive.
Context and photograph
Apple Remote, Front Row and iLife ’06 were included. The original photo, dated March 2, 2006 by its author, shows an Intel Mac mini on a TiVo recorder beside a card reader. It does not identify which processor is inside. This entry does not mix the initial configurations with the later 2006 update.
