The Macintosh Performa 578 keeps its own entry. Apple TIL 15214 distinguishes the 575, 577 and 578 by installed RAM, disk, applications and place sold; they are not merged into one bundle. Service Source and TIL give a 33 MHz MC68LC040; the Apple summary lists processor 66 and data path 33, while the family brochure writes 66/33 MHz. These attributed wordings are retained without inventing a separate 66 MHz version. The FPU is not integrated.

History and documentation
The Macintosh Performa 578 keeps its own entry. Apple TIL 15214 distinguishes the 575, 577 and 578 by installed RAM, disk, applications and place sold; they are not merged into one bundle. Service Source and TIL give a 33 MHz MC68LC040; the Apple summary lists processor 66 and data path 33, while the family brochure writes 66/33 MHz. These attributed wordings are retained without inventing a separate 66 MHz version. The FPU is not integrated.
Memory and display
For this 578, Service Source specifies 8 MB starting RAM and a 320 MB SCSI disk. The specific summary agrees on 320 MB. The documented limit is 36 MB with an 80 ns or faster 72-pin SIMM. TIL specifies 4 MB on the board, distinguished from installed total. TIL gives 1 MB ROM and standard 1 MB VRAM, although the summary also tabulates 512 K. The Trinitron is 14 inches diagonally, 13 viewable per Service Source, at 640 × 480.
Storage and connections
The internal AppleCD 300i Plus is double-speed and tray-loading, without a caddy: the 550's caddy-based 300i is not copied here. There is an internal SuperDrive, one PDS slot and one communications slot for optional Ethernet or fax/modem cards. TIL and the specific summary give one ADB, versus two in generic Service Source. Two RS-232/RS-422 serial ports and DB-25 SCSI complete the documented connections. TIL allows five external SCSI devices versus six in the generic manual; those counts are not blended.
Software, dimensions and photograph
TIL and support identify System 7.1P6 with System Enabler 364. TIL gives 40 W maximum without the display and 60 W with it, while Service Source lists 120 W; the documentary scopes stay explicit. The support record includes February 1, 1994, not itself proof of a delivery day. Matthew Paul Argall's photo, released to the public domain according to Commons, shows an LC 575 with its label visible: representative image, not an exact Performa 578 photo. The 2010 original is retained without new edits.
