History and documentation
The Macintosh PowerBook 1400c/133 combines a 133 MHz PowerPC 603e with 16 MB installed RAM and an internal 1.3 GB IDE disk. This entry covers that documented combination, not every possible capacity of the model. The documentation for this revision specifies 128 KB L2 cache.
Design and specifications
RAM can reach 64 MB with compatible cards; 16 MB is not the maximum and is not all described as soldered. ROM is 4 MB. It includes a removable 8x CD-ROM module. The removable 1.44 MB Apple SuperDrive floppy uses the same bay; with the CD installed it is kept separately, not a second drive simultaneously in that bay.
Use and context
The backlit 11.3-inch screen displays thousands of colors at 800 × 600 pixels using an active TFT matrix. One megabyte of VRAM serves the internal panel; output to an external monitor requires an optional card. Keyboard and trackpad are built in, with tapping and dragging. BookCover lets users change the lid inserts, and the keyboard lifts for access inside.
Notes and image
It provides two PC Card slots for two Type I/II cards or one Type III, infrared, ADB, RS-422 serial with LocalTalk and HDI-30 external SCSI. Ethernet and modems need accessories, not assumed to be included. It has a microphone and one speaker, with 16-bit stereo line input and output. The main battery is NiMH. The original labelled schematic is not a photograph or scale drawing.
