History and documentation
Apple announced the 12-inch PowerBook G4 on January 31, 2005. This aluminum revision stays separate from earlier revisions and the other simultaneous sizes. Processor: 1.5 GHz; family size: 12in.
Design and specifications
Initial RAM: 512 MB DDR · 333 MHz; storage: 60 / 80 GB Ultra ATA/100 · 5400 rpm; optical drive: Combo / 8x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW); announced US price: 1499 / 1699 USD. Slashes separate configurations in matching order, not a combination of maxima. Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 · 64 MB. Apple documents a maximum of 1.25 GB DDR; this is not initial memory.
Use and context
All include AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Apple adds two-finger TrackPad scrolling and Sudden Motion Sensor, using a three-axis accelerometer to help protect the spinning hard drive in a fall, not a guarantee against damage. The 12-inch has two USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 400 and 10/100 Ethernet. Its two configurations change optical drive and storage, not processor or initial RAM.
Notes and image
Apple announces Mac OS X 10.3 Panther and iLife 05. Availability expected later that week, not proven delivery on announcement day. The image is an original labelled schematic, not a photograph, scale drawing or exact regional keyboard layout.
