Launch and context
Announced on September 7, 2022, orders opened September 9 and stores followed September 23 at $249 in the US. The original model used a MagSafe case with Lightning. A cumulative sheet including USB-C and later functions does not make them original 2022 features. Dates describe initial markets, not every regional expansion. [p2-launch, p2-spec]
How Apple presented it
H2 powered active noise cancellation and Adaptive Transparency. Apple advertised up to twice the noise cancellation of the first Pro: a vendor comparison, not a universal measurement. An XS tip expanded the selection to four sizes, and sliding on the stem adjusted volume. U1 and a speaker helped find the case with a compatible iPhone; it charged by MagSafe, Qi, Apple Watch or Lightning. Apple advertised up to 6 hours with noise cancellation and 30 with the case. Earbuds and original case were IPX4, not ratings of later revisions. [p2-launch, p2-review]
Documented issues
The Verge observed clearly improved noise cancellation and useful volume control, but did not rank it above every rival for sound or cancellation. It described Android playback interruptions in its test software; this is a historical observation, not a claim that it persists today. Launch Adaptive Transparency should not be confused with later health features or presented as certified hearing protection. Personalized spatial content required compatible hardware and software; some platforms received it after the sale date. [p2-review, p2-launch, p2-spec]
