Launch
Introduced at the West Coast Computer Faire in April 1977 and shipped from June 1977 at USD 1,298 with 4 KB. The Apple II line remained in the catalog until October 1993.
Marketing
It was the first mass-market personal computer: a ready-to-use plastic case, color graphics and open slots. The VisiCalc spreadsheet (1979), the world's first, made it a business tool.
Flaws and fixes
The text screen was 40-column uppercase-only (lowercase arrived with the IIe), and cassette storage was slow until the Disk II arrived in 1978. It used a TV set as a monitor via an RF modulator.
