Launch
Apple introduced it on September 20, 1989 and sold it until February 11, 1991. It was the first portable Macintosh: an active-matrix LCD, a trackball and a lead-acid battery with 6-12 hours of life. Dates and details: EveryMac and Wikipedia.
Marketing
Despite its 7.2 kg, Apple sold it as the Mac you could take anywhere; the press praised its active-matrix display, remarkably sharp for the time, and its built-in trackball. It cost $6,500. (Wikipedia and EveryMac.)
Flaws and fixes
Apple documents no model-specific defects in the sources consulted. Limits that do appear in its spec sheet: lead-acid battery; 24-bit addressing; RAM of 1 to 8 MB; Apple notes that only some systems have a backlit screen.
