iMac G4 (15-inch, February 2003) (2003)

On February 4, 2003 Apple announced a 15-inch iMac with an 800 MHz PowerPC G4, 256 MB memory, 60 GB Ultra ATA drive, 32x Combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW and GeForce2 MX with 32 MB. The announced US price was $1299 and Apple declared immediate availability. It included Apple Pro Speakers, Mac OS X Jaguar and iLife, with readiness for optional AirPort. February 2003

The release distinguishes this base from the 17-inch iMac with DDR and AirPort Extreme; those features are not transferred to the 15-inch model.

Limits and availability

It is an evolution of the 2002 15-inch family: the announcement presents the 800 MHz Combo model at $1299, $200 less than its predecessor; it should not be confused with every original 2002 configuration. The Combo reads DVDs and writes CDs, but does not write DVDs. Listed memory is the factory base, not the maximum. Availability is Apple’s statement in the announcement, not proof of each unit’s delivery. The original 2002 page remains separate.

Illustration

The image is a schematic recreation, not a photograph of this revision. It represents the 15-inch G4 design with a neutral 4:3 screen, using the later USB 2.0 page as its dimensional reference (38.4 cm outer display width, 27 cm base, 50.9 cm total height). It does not establish exact dimensions of a February unit or a precise arm position; arm and details are simplified.
