Announcement and display

Initial configuration
The initial configuration combined an 800 MHz PowerPC G4, 256 MB SDRAM, an 80 GB hard drive, DVD-R/CD-RW SuperDrive and GeForce4 MX with 32 MB graphics memory. Apple Pro Speakers were included. The statement presented it as a digital hub for iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD: a home-use proposition, not a performance test.
2003 revisions
On February 4, 2003 Apple announced immediate availability of the 1 GHz revision for $1799: 256 MB DDR, 4x SuperDrive and 64 MB GeForce4 MX, with optional AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth. On September 8, the 1.25 GHz revision was announced as immediately available at the same price, with 333 MHz DDR, 64 MB GeForce FX 5200 Ultra, two FireWire 400 and three USB 2.0 ports. The photo identifies the 17-inch size, not the internal revision or speed.
