Apple introduced the third-generation iPod nano on September 5, 2007 and announced immediate worldwide availability: silver 4 GB for $149 and 8 GB for $199 in the US. The 8 GB came in silver, black, blue, green and (PRODUCT) RED. Apple identifies it as A1236. Its two-inch, 320 × 240 display played video, unlike the tall second-generation nano.

Introduction and models

Apple introduced the third-generation iPod nano on September 5, 2007 and announced immediate worldwide availability: silver 4 GB for $149 and 8 GB for $199 in the US. The 8 GB came in silver, black, blue, green and (PRODUCT) RED. Apple identifies it as A1236. Its two-inch, 320 × 240 display played video, unlike the tall second-generation nano.

Marketing, controls and accessories

The presentation centered on bringing video to nano. Cover Flow let users browse album art with the Click Wheel, and iQuiz, Vortex and Klondike were included. Apple advertised up to 24 hours of audio or five hours of video, depending on use and settings; these are different playback conditions. The case combined anodized aluminum and polished stainless steel. The five launch colors must not be confused with later range additions.

Availability, evolution and photograph

Jayden Montes’s photo shows a silver third-generation example photographed in 2020, without proving its capacity. It is not a launch advertisement. Compare the nano 2G record for the previous design; the 2007 classic and touch place nano within Apple’s same family renewal. Nano included earbuds and a USB-to-30-pin cable. The announcement required iTunes 7.4 and USB 2.0 with Mac OS X 10.4.8 or later, or Windows Vista/XP SP2 or later.
