Launch and context
Announced on September 9, 2015, with availability planned for late October. Apple shifted the story to television apps, games and Siri Remote voice search. A 64-bit A8 accompanied tvOS. How Apple presented it
Historical US prices: $149 for 32 GB, $199 for 64 GB. HDMI 1.4, Ethernet 10/100 and USB-C for service, not video input. Size: 35 × 98 × 98 mm; weight 425 g. Playback up to 1080p, not 4K. The 2015 Siri Remote had a touch surface. The second-generation remote was added later. [tv4-launch, tv4-spec]
Documented issues
Removal of optical audio compared with generations 2/3 was a connectivity change, not a fault. Siri depends on language/region; the announcement does not guarantee every service today. No endemic defect is established in the cited sources. For black screen, check HDMI/input or connect directly; Apple's HD guide uses Menu + Volume Down 5 seconds to cycle resolutions, not Menu + Up of 2/3. [tv4-spec, tv-care]
