Launch
Steve Jobs introduced it on 11 January 2005 at Macworld Expo alongside the iPod shuffle, and it went on sale on 22 January as 'the cheapest, most affordable Mac ever' at USD 499. In February 2006 the line moved to Intel processors.
Marketing
Its slogan was 'BYODKM': bring your own display, keyboard and mouse. It targeted Windows users who already owned peripherals, offering a very affordable entry Mac; it was advertised with a dedicated Radeon 9200 GPU, rare in budget PCs.
Flaws and fixes
A single RAM slot (max 1 GB) was limiting and the 2.5-inch ATA drive was slow; opening the screwless case required a putty knife and could void the warranty. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth were build-to-order options, not standard.
