What it adds and what to know
Introduced on November 10, 2020 at the "One More Thing" event and on sale November 17. One of the first three Macs with M1, the first chip Apple designed specifically for the Mac. It kept the ultracompact format and, according to Apple, was one-tenth the size of the best-selling Windows desktop in its price range while delivering up to five times its performance, and compiled code in Xcode up to three times faster than the previous generation. It also dropped in price: $699, one hundred less than the previous quad-core model. Apple Newsroom
