Launch
Apple introduced it on March 23, 1992 and it was sold until March 15, 1993. It was the original LC with a 68030 instead of the 68020, in the same compact “pizza box” case; an education-only configuration (M1720LL/A) shipped with a floppy drive and no hard drive. Dates and data: EveryMac; the introduction is also recorded in Apple Support and Apple’s Tech Info Library.
Marketing
The affordable Mac for home and education: faster than the LC without a big price increase: $1,400 at launch in the US. Expansion was limited to one LC PDS slot. (EveryMac.)
Flaws and fixes
Apple documents no model-specific defects in the sources consulted. Limits that do appear in its spec sheet: 4 MB of onboard RAM expandable only to 10 MB via 2 30-pin SIMM slots (100 ns); single display; one LC PDS slot only.
