Launch
Apple introduced it on April 20, 2021 at its spring special event, opened orders on April 30, and it reached stores on May 21, 2021. It was the first iMac with Apple silicon and the first complete iMac redesign since 2012: an 11.5 mm aluminum enclosure in seven colors that recall the iMac G3. Dates: Apple Newsroom press releases (April 20 and May 2021).
Marketing
The campaign leaned on design: at just 11.5 mm thin, Apple said the side profile “practically disappears”, and presented iMac as “the most personal, powerful, capable, and fun it has ever been”, meant to brighten any space with its seven colors. It also highlighted the best camera and audio ever in a Mac and Touch ID coming to iMac for the first time. Quotes: Apple Newsroom press release (2021-04-20).
Flaws and fixes
No general defect campaign is documented in the consulted sources. Some early buyers reported units with slightly tilted screens due to the stand mount (specialized press, May 2021), and iFixit’s teardown showed difficult repairs because of heavy adhesive use on the display. Sources: MacRumors (2021-05-24) and iFixit.
Indicative price
From USD 1,299 (7-core GPU; USD 1,249 education) · USD 1,499 with 8-core GPU (USD 1,399 education). US launch price per the Apple Newsroom press release (2021-04-20).
