Launch and context

Announced in Chicago on March 27, 2018, orders opened that day with first deliveries planned for that week. It shipped with iOS 11 and A10 Fusion with M10. A 9.7-inch Retina display, 2048 × 1536 at 264 ppi, with 32 or 128 GB. It supports first-generation Apple Pencil; the cited sources document that Pencil generation. [ipad6-launch, ipad6-spec]

How Apple presented it

Education, creativity and augmented reality shaped the presentation. The general US starting price was $329 for Wi-Fi 32 GB; $299 was for eligible schools, not everyone. Apple Pencil was a separate $99 purchase. Rear camera 8 MP, front 1.2 MP, Touch ID, Lightning and 3.5 mm. Dimensions: 240 × 169.5 × 7.5 mm; weight: 469 g Wi-Fi or 478 g Cellular. Historical figures, not a live offer. [ipad6-launch, ipad6-spec]

Documented issues

The Verge noted a non-laminated display without ProMotion, True Tone or Smart Connector. Pencil did not make it a Pro. No endemic model-specific defect is established in the cited sources. If charging is absent, Apple recommends another cable and adapter and checking temperature; if unresponsive, top and Home until the logo. The cited sources offer general troubleshooting guidance without establishing current support or repair availability. [ipad6-review, ipad-charge]
