Announcement and availability

Apple introduced it on January 26, 2026. It was available to order the same day on apple.com and the Apple Store app, reaching Apple Store locations later that week. At the time of this page it is on sale. Apple Newsroom, 26-01-2026

What changes and who it is for

It is the second generation of Apple's item finder, nearly five years after the original AirTag from 2021. It adds Apple's second-generation Ultra Wideband chip (the same as in the iPhone 17 lineup), Precision Finding from up to 50% farther away according to Apple, an updated Bluetooth chip with longer range, and a speaker 50% louder with a new chime. For the first time, Precision Finding also works from Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later. Apple Newsroom

Before choosing

It requires an iPhone with iOS 26 or later (or iPad with iPadOS 26) and an Apple Account with iCloud. Precision Finding from the wrist only works with Apple Watch Series 9 / Ultra 2 or later. It is designed for tracking objects, not people or pets, and includes unwanted-tracking protections. The CR2032 battery is user-replaceable. Apple · Specifications
