Announcement and availability
Apple introduced it on October 17, 2023, with availability beginning in early November 2023. At the time of this page it remains on sale as the lowest-priced Apple Pencil. Apple Newsroom, 17-10-2023
What changes and who it is for
It is the most affordable Apple Pencil, aimed at note taking, sketching and annotating. It offers the same pixel-perfect accuracy, low latency and tilt sensitivity as the higher models, and supports hover on iPad Pro models with M2. It pairs and charges with a USB-C cable under a sliding cap, and attaches magnetically to the iPad edge, where it sleeps to save battery. It works with all iPad models that have a USB-C port. Before choosing
It has no pressure sensitivity (unlike Apple Pencil 1st and 2nd generation and Pencil Pro), no double-tap gesture and no wireless charging: the magnetic attachment is for storage only. Hover is only available on iPad Pro models with M2. It is the right model for iPad (10th generation) and USB-C iPads, but anyone who draws with pressure needs a different model.
