Announcement and availability

Apple introduced it on March 4, 2026 with the “Say hello to MacBook Neo” press release; pre-orders opened the same day and it reached stores on March 11, 2026. It is a brand-new line, not a refresh: the first MacBook without a suffix since the 12-inch MacBook was discontinued in 2019. Apple Newsroom, 3-4-2026

What changes and who it is for

It runs the A18 Pro chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU), the same one as the iPhone 16 Pro, in a fanless laptop with 8 GB of unified memory. Apple pitches it for everyday tasks - browsing, video, photos, AI features - and as the entry Mac for students and first-time Mac buyers. The four colors (silver, blush, citrus, indigo) extend to the keyboard, a first for a Mac. Apple Newsroom

Before choosing

The configuration is fixed: 8 GB of memory and 256 or 512 GB of storage, with no RAM upgrade option. There is a single USB 3 port (10 Gb/s); the second USB-C is USB 2. No MagSafe: charging is over USB-C with the included 20 W adapter. The display is sRGB (not P3) and supports one external monitor (up to 4K at 60 Hz). Wi-Fi is 6E, not Wi-Fi 7.
